UN concerned about food insecurity in Afghanistan

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has reported that 15 million people in Afghanistan are uncertain about how they will secure their next meal.

The organization stated on its official X account on Tuesday, December 17, that it urgently requires $718 million to continue its operations for the next six months in the country. According to WFP, the increasing cold weather in parts of Afghanistan has exacerbated poverty, raising the demand for food among the population.

In addition, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently expressed concern about a reduction in funding for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. They warned that this budget cut could put millions of Afghan lives at risk.

The need for aid in Afghanistan has been further intensified by factors such as the return of migrants, floods, earthquakes, and climate change, which have all contributed to the worsening situation.

Meanwhile, some residents of the capital, who are grappling with economic challenges, have called on humanitarian organizations and the Taliban government to provide support and assistance to those in need.

The growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan highlights the urgent need for international support. Continued aid and resources are crucial to alleviating the suffering of millions of Afghans facing food insecurity and economic hardship.
