Averill Park CSD rebrands mascot as Golden Knights

AVERILL PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Averill Park Central School District's mascot officially becomes the Golden Knights on July 1, 2025. District officials say they look forward to the new traditions and memories the change will bring.

Students and community members led the process of selecting the new mascot. District students are developing the new logo, keeping the school's navy and gold colors in the association.

The change follows a statewide mascot mandate adopted by the New York State Board of Regents in April 2023. The regulation prohibits using Indigenous names, mascots, and logos in public schools in New York.

In May, the student-led reached the final stages of surveying and presentations. Officials said in the district's fall and winter newsletter that the efforts made by students were extensive and that community feedback was crucial to the rebranding process.
