North Adams man pleads guilty to 2023 armed robbery

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday that Joshua Piantoni, 42, of North Adams, pleaded guilty in an armed robbery case and was sentenced to seven years in state prison on November 20.

As part of his plea, Piantoni admitted that on September 27, 2023, he rode an all-terrain vehicle to the Cumberland Farms on Route 2 in Williamstown and robbed the clerk at gunpoint. Police intercepted and arrested him on Ashton Avenue while he was fleeing the area.

While being taken into custody, Piantoni was found with a BB gun and $259 in cash from the store's register. He pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Armed robbery
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended License
  • Unregistered motor vehicle
  • Operating a recreational vehicle on a public way

Piantoni's sentences will run concurrently. Assistant District Attorney Rachael Eramo prosecuted the case, with support from Assistant District Attorney Amy Winston.
