To the editor: What UAW wants from Trump’s tariffs

During one of Donald Trump’s many campaign trips to Michigan, he said he would save the auto industry and “stimulate massive domestic auto production” through tariffs. That promise was what autoworkers, such as the ones I represent, want to hear. In Toledo, the Stellantis Jeep facility recently announced an indefinite layoff of 1,100 workers, which resulted in even more job losses at local suppliers affected by the contraction.
