Alfie Dorrington Spurs player profile

Born in Enfield, North London, on April 20, 2005, Alfie Dorrington grew up as a Tottenham supporter and played for Hadley Rangers and then Cockfosters FC, before joining the academy of his beloved team at the age of 13. He made three appearances for the under-18s team whilst he was still a schoolboy at the Ashmole Academy.

Dorrington provides a strong presence at the heart of any defence, standing tall at 192cm (6’3”), and he has been described on Tottenham’s official website as a ‘commanding central defender’.

While known for his strong defending, Dorrington is a player of many talents and became a talking point among Spurs supporters for his assist in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the 2023 under-18 Premier League Cup final. He intercepted the ball in his own penalty area, ran the length of the pitch and put Jamie Donley through on goal, in an impressive box-to-box move.

Alfie Dorrington’s Tottenham appearances

Dorrington has become the 889th player to ever make a competitive appearance for Spurs after coming off the bench against Southampton on Sunday to make his debut for the club’s first team.

He has had to wait patiently, having been named in the Tottenham first-team squad a number of times without finding his way onto the pitch, including 10 Premier League fixtures in a row last season, between November and January.

His commitment to the first team did not prevent him from playing an important role in Tottenham’s Premier League 2 success last season, with Dorrington starting 14 out of 20 matches as the Spurs under-21s team won the league title. This was a great achievement, particularly because they finished second to last in the table the year before.

Dorrington has also represented the England national team at youth level, most recently the under-19s side, for whom he has made seven appearances.

Alfie Dorrington has an opportunity at Spurs

With Tottenham’s current injury woes, which have left them with only one recognised centre-back available, excluding academy players, now is the time for Dorrington to make his mark.

Ashley Phillips is set to return from his loan at Stoke City in the summer, while Luka Vuskovic will officially join the team at the same time, so it is vital that Dorrington takes his chances while he has them and shows Ange Postecoglou what he is capable of.
