Topeka man charged with city's 21st homicide of the year

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka Police Department has charged a man for the most recent homicide in Topeka.
On Thursday, December 12, just before 11:30 p.m., officers with TPD responded to the 2000 Blk of SW Stone for a welfare check. When officers arrived they found David Bentley, 45, of Topeka suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
According to a press release from TPD, as a result of the investigation, Colton G. Miller, 27, of Topeka was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Correction on charges of Murder in the 1st Degree.
Miller was also charged with the following:
- Unlawful to acquire proceeds from a drug transaction
- Use of communication facility in commission of a felony drug violation
- Distribute controlled substance
This was Topeka's 21st homicide of the year.
