Fewer US grandparents are taking care of grandchildren, says new data

WASHINGTON, D.C.: According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of U.S. grandparents living with and caring for grandchildren dropped during the early 2020s compared to the late 2010s.

The American Community Survey, which analyzed 3.5 million households, highlights shifts in family dynamics, childcare, housing, and education shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic and other societal trends.
