MATCH REPORT | DARTFORD 2 DULWICH HAMLET 2

0

Dartford’s unbeaten league run continued, as Callum Jones and Olly Box scored to secure a share of the spoils against Dulwich Hamlet at Bericote Powerhouse Princes Park.

As 862 supporters turned up on this rather beautiful, yet cold afternoon in Kent, both sides took part in an entertaining encounter out on the pitch.

And it was the hosts who came close to opening the score with two good opportunities within the first five minutes… the lively Anthony Jeffrey and excellent Luke Wanadio seeing goalkeeper Jacob Marsden pull off good saves.

By the fifteenth minute, Hamlet shot-stopper Dillon Barnes made a name for himself by making an excellent double save in quick succession, before a third strike was blocked by one of his defenders.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 21st minute, as Callum Jones ended his goal drought with a fine strike following good work by Samir Carruthers.

The excellent Luther Williams then stepped in to intercept the ball from a threatening Wanadio, before playing the first pass in a counter-attack which ended with Olly Box firing narrowly wide of Barnes’ upright (30).

But, the hosts were pegged back on the stroke of half-time when Wanadio got the better of George Whitefield to slot home the equaliser (45+3).

The visitors looked more dangerous during the opening exchanges of the second-half and, by the 61st minute, they’d turned the game around via a Ralfi Hand goal.

The Darts responded well via Olly Box, who fired narrowly wide (68), before levelling the score following excellent work by Sam Odaudu in the 72nd minute.

Before the goal, Ady Pennock made what would prove to be his only changes in personnel with a double swap in the 69th minute. Jeremiah Pinder and Hayden Bullas came on to replace Samir Carruthers and Louis Dunne respectively.

There were opportunities for both sides to win this entertaining game, with perhaps the best one falling to the hosts with four minutes remaining. But, Dillon Barnes pulled off a great save to thwart Sam Odaudu, before Hayden Bullas couldn’t keep the rebound down.

So in the end, both sides had to settle for a point-a-piece in a game which saw Ady Pennock’s men stretch their unbeaten league run to nine games. Olly Box’s performance earned him a thoroughly deserved Man of The Match award, after his eighth goal of the season (6th in the league) earned Dartford a valuable point.
