‘Won’t suffer any Losses’: Ex-Pakistan cricketer Lashes at PCB for accepting Hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali believes that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) got fooled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as they have agreed to go with the hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, set to be held next year.
Basit also believes that ICC is not thinking about Pakistan but only about the broadcasters on the event. It was earlier reported that the PCB and BCCI made an agreement about Pakistan will play in Colombo in 2026 T20 World Cup, set to be hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
“Everybody got to know that it is going to be a hybrid model, which was also agreed upon by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, but with the condition that the same model will be in force for the 2026 ICC event (T20 World Cup) in India. Now it is being said that in 2027 or 2028, the women’s World Cup hosting rights will be given to Pakistan… Everybody will feel ‘wow! Not one but two ICC events in Pakistan!’ But it’s being done so that in 2026 the Pakistan team goes to India, and the Indian women’s team will then come to Pakistan. The broadcaster won’t suffer any losses,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
The Champions Trophy will be played in a hybrid model, where PCB will be the host, and 10 matches of the event will also take place in Pakistan. Rest of the matches, where India will play, will be held in Dubai.
Apart from the league matches, if India qualifies from the league matches, the semifinal and the final of the event will also take place in Dubai. However, in case if India fails to qualify for the semifinal and finals, Karachi and Rawalpindi will host the title decider.
