The Weekend’s Action : 14 / 15 December 2024

0

SATURDAY

  • 1st XV vs Sandal (A)
  • 2nd XV vs Sandal 2s (A)
  • 3rd XV vs Hullensians 2s (H)
  • 4th XV vs Hullensians 3s (H)

SUNDAY

  • Ladies 1st XV vs Harrogate Ladies (A)
  • Colts XV No Fixture

This weekend sees both the 1st XV and 2nd XV travel to Sandal.  Saturday’s win against Ilkley moves the 1st XV up to 7th in the league, Sandal currently sit in 3rd place with 7 wins from 11 games. Earlier in the season the Woldsmen came out winners in a highscoring game of two halves with Sandal and will travel with confidence knowing they can beat the opposition.  Sandal suffered their 4th loss of the season last weekend against Cleckheaton.

The 2nd XV’s victory over Ilkley on Saturday has moved them into 2nd in the Yorkshire Premiership, just four points behind Sheffield.  Sandal 2s, who won the league last season are currently sitting in 6th place, with four wins and four losses from the season so far.  It was a close game when the two teams met at Kelleythorpe earlier in the year.  With Sandal 2s not having played a fixture since the 9th November they will be keen to get a result.

Will Megginson’s Cents managed to come away from Pocklington with a brilliant 17-5 victory, moving them up to 3rd in the league, one place behind this weeks opposition Hullensians.  ‘Ensians have only lost one game this season, which happened to be away at Pocklington, so the Cents can go into the game full of confidence knowing a win will take them upto 2nd place and close the gap to Malton who have played one extra game.

The 4th XV also welcome Hullensians to Kelleythorpe, in a league which is currently scattered with walkovers – the Extra Cents vs Pocklington was the only fixture to take place last weekend. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to get the win, in what is always a hard fought derby game against Pock.  Hullensians 3s currently sit top of the Merit Table, like the 2s only losing one game so far this season.  This will, no doubt, be a tough game for the 4s, but a win in the final fixture of 2024 will set them up nicely as they push towards 4th place in the league.

On Sunday the Ladies will be on the road again after the first home game in four weeks unfortunately got postponed due to the weather.  They now have to wait until the 5th January before the next home fixture.  They travel to Harrogate who currently sit bottom of Championship North 2 with one win from six games.  The Woldswomen hold 4th in the table with games in hand to those around them.  A win on Sunday will set them up nicely for the second half of the season and to challenging for top spot in the league.

*We would also like to congratulate Micha Newman who represented Jamaica Ladies last Saturday! We have a current international rugby player within our ranks!

With no Colts game this weekend, it has allowed a number of the Under 18s to get some valuable senior minutes.  George Buckle and Finn Styche travel to Sandal with the 2s, Konnor Gallagher, Joe Nalton and Harry Raines with the 3s and Sam Clark with the 4s.
