ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A St. Mary School Board employee is accused of theft after a school board credit card was allegedly used for personal use, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office announced.

According to a news release, Dinah Dru Richard, 31, of Patterson, was arrested this afternoon on charges of forgery, theft of more than $5,000, and malfeasance in office.

The sheriff's office said the charges stem from an investigation that began Wednesday, after school administration reported a possible theft.

"Through the investigation, detectives learned that the school board credit card had been used for personal use by a school board employee. Furthermore, detectives found evidence to suggest that a forgery had been committed in order to sign off on the purchases," the news release read.

The sheriff's office said Richard was developed as the suspect in the investigation. She was arrested on warrants and booked into the St. Mary Parish jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
