New 'Witcher' Game Ditches Famous Protagonist For Different Witcher

0

The video game world of The Witcher is about to reboot the beloved fantasy saga. Instead of the sword-swinging Geralt, the new game will focus on a different lead hero. In The Witcher IV, the protagonist will be Ciri of Cintra, who, in The Witcher lore, is Geralt’s adoptive daughter.

In a new trailer from developer CD Projekt Red, the world of The Witcher is reintroduced anew. This may be called “The Witcher IV,” but this game is also the first step for the franchise in a new, bold direction. Ciri is 100 percent the protagonist of this story, and the action in the trailer is hyper-realistic, making us think that this game might be better than the more recent seasons of the Netflix version of The Witcher.

But is Geralt gone from the game franchise forever? Some gaming experts think that Geralt’s voice can be heard in the background of the new trailer. On top of that, voice actor Doug Cockle, has previously stated that “[Geralt] will be a part of the game. We just don't know how much, and the game won't focus on Geralt, so it's not about him this time.”

However, since then, CD Projekt Red hasn’t confirmed that detail one way or another, and later Cockle claimed he was censured for mentioning it to the press.

So, has The Witcher game series truly turned the page on its titular character? Is Ciri our new badass? Assuming Geralt is of the game entirely probably isn’t all that wise, so for now, if you’re throwing coins out various Witchers, we wouldn’t bet on Geralt being gone forever. At least not yet.
