Compensation cess: GoM may seek more time to submit report

A group of ministers (GoM) will likely request the GST Council to extend the December 31 deadline for their report on compensation cess by six months. The GoM needs more time to finalize proposals for replacing the cess, which is levied on certain goods and set to be abolished in March 2026.
