Tottenham struggle for form during hectic schedule

It is no secret that Tottenham Hotspur have been far from their best in recent weeks, managing just one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.

This troubling run has left fans and pundits questioning the team’s ability to compete effectively on multiple fronts. Some have pointed fingers at Ange Postecoglou’s game management, while others believe the players have failed to rise to the occasion when it matters most.

However, the most glaring challenge for Spurs has been their mounting injury crisis, which has severely impacted their ability to field a consistent and competitive side.

With key players sidelined, the team has struggled to cope with the relentless demands of a fixture list that has combined Premier League action, domestic cup ties, and European commitments.

In light of this, the break in Tottenham’s Europa League campaign has been welcomed as a timely reprieve.

Ange Postecoglou admits Tottenham need Europa League break

Speaking to football.london after Tottenham’s recent Europa League draw, Ange Postecoglou highlighted the significance of the upcoming break and expressed optimism about the team’s prospects moving forward.

Reflecting on the result and what lies ahead, the Tottenham manager shared his thoughts on how the pause could benefit his squad.

He said: Like I said, we’ll probably look back on this as a good point for us. One more game at home and Hoffenheim away and we’re in that bubble of being able to get through automatically which is ideally what we want.

“The fact that it’s not for five or six weeks, we’ll be in much better shape squad-wise. With a bit of luck by the time those games come around, we’ll look back on this as an important point.”

Why the break is a blessing for Spurs

The pause in European action could not have come at a more opportune moment for Tottenham, given their current squad limitations.

By the time the Europa League resumes, Tottenham are expected to have both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven back from injury, significantly strengthening their defensive options.

The return of these two players will not only bolster the backline but also offer Postecoglou greater tactical flexibility as he seeks to stabilise the team’s performances.

Furthermore, there is the potential for new signings to join the squad during the January transfer window, which could provide the additional depth needed to sustain a strong campaign across multiple competitions.

If Tottenham can successfully utilise this break to recover and reinforce, they may find themselves in a much stronger position to challenge for silverware in the latter stages of the season.
