Host Lee Mack declared the correct answer – but viewers were sure it was a ‘trick question’[/caption]

But as viewers were gripped to their seats with the game play, one particular question completely threw them.

At the 15% mark, Lee asked: “Which of these groups of six symbols are in the same order whether you read them from left to right or from right to left?”

Potential answers

A [ ] [ ] [ ]

B !£!£!£

C <>>>><

D %/%/%/

E ++—+

After time ran down, the 56-year-old revealed they lost eight members of the studio audience, before announcing the answer was C.

However, ITV viewers flooded social media with comments as they claimed the correct answer was A.

Venting, one fan wrote: “I said A and I still think A. I don’t understand how it’s not.”

A second posted: “Baffled! I didn’t understand this one at all.”

“Can someone please explain how it’s C,” asked a third.

While a fourth commented: “I thought it was A. C isn’t in the same order. Explain, please, someone?”

Thankfully, one smart and eagle-eyed viewer cracked the ‘trick question’ and explained it to The 1% Club fanbase.

He said: “Because it’s how you read it. I thought it was A, too, but it starts as a Closed bracket, whereas C starts the same as the end. I hope that explains it.”

Another viewer wrote in depth: “It’s not about being mirrored; it’s about what symbol is what. So A would be (from L-R): left bracket, right bracket, left bracket etc, but R-L it would be; right bracket, left bracket etc. which is difference.

“Whereas C is left arrow-right arrow-right arrow etc from both ends!” Meanwhile, another explained: “It is.. first one is pointing left, then 4 in the middle are pointing right, then last one is pointing left. Same applies if you start from the other side and go backwards.”

The 1% Club is available to stream now on ITVX.
