Map shows where in the UK will be hit with rare three-day weather warning
A three-day yellow weather warning has been issued, with rain and flooding forecast.
The Met Office has put the warning in place for northwest Scotland from 6pm on Sunday to 12 noon on Tuesday.
It said ‘melting snow’ combined with rain could lead to the flooding of some homes and businesses.
The forecaster said: ‘Rain will become persistent across parts of western Scotland during Sunday, continuing throughout Monday before easing later on Tuesday.
’70-100 mm of rain is likely to fall widely during this period, but possibly over 150 mm for some exposed hills and mountains. Rapid melting of lying snow will also contribute to any potential impacts.’
The weather warning comes days after the country was battered by Storm Darragh, which caused flooding, damage to buildings and trees, chaos on the roads and train networks and left at least two men dead.
It’s believed a third, England rugby international Tom Voyce, was swept away in a flooded river in Alnwick, Northumbria after after he attempted to drive across it on Saturday night, after visiting friends.
In their search for the 43-year-old, police found a body this week.
Today will be rather chilly and grey for much of the UK, according to the Met Office, with some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle possible and a band of more persistent rain arriving across northwest Scotland later.
Tomorrow is set to be brighter for many, as rain clears southwards, it said, though further cloud and rain returning to the northwest later.
As the northwest of Scotland faces possible rain and flooding, from Sunday to Tuesday, it will be generally dry but cloudier elsewhere.
‘Best of any brighter breaks will be in the east. Windy, but mild,’ it added.
Earlier this week, the Met Office warned that the UK can potentially expect some sleet and snow in the run up to Christmas.
