I couldn’t afford a velvet grey sofa so transformed mine with a £5.25 Matalan buy – I saved thousands & you’d never know
A DIY enthusiast has revealed that she couldn’t afford to splash the cash on a posh crushed velvet sofa, so gave hers a transformation on the cheap.
Using bargain throws from Matalan, Jan Pearce was able to give her sofa a new lease of life, without breaking the bank.
A savvy woman has revealed that rather than spending thousands of pounds on a posh, crushed velvet sofa, she transformed hers for less than £75[/caption] Jan Pearce and her husband used cheap throws from Dunelm to give their couch an overhaul[/caption] They didn’t have a sewing machine, so used their hands to sew the throws onto the sofa cushions[/caption] DIY fans have described the DIY project as ‘amazing’ and hailed the sofa as ‘beautiful’[/caption]Not only did she save thousands of pounds thanks to not buying a new sofa, but she also proved her incredible DIY skills too.
Thrilled with her sofa’s overhaul, which she turned from blue to crushed grey velvet, Jan took to social media to give people a close-up look, leaving many open-mouthed.
Posting on DIY On A Budget, a private Facebook group with 2.2 million members, Jan shared a snap of her blue sofa, alongside images of her now stunning grey couch, as she penned: “And it went from this………To this!”
She then joked: “And we only wanted to get divorced about eight times lol.”
Jan and her husband used throws from Matalan, which worked out at just £5.25 each, to transform her living room’s main piece of furniture.
She beamed: “I used 14 throws from Matalan, £7 each but got 25% off so even cheaper! So was £73.50!
“Put the TV on and got to work!”
Jan explained that she and her partner did everything themselves, by hand, as she acknowledged: “All cushions [were] sewn by hand as I don’t have a sewing machine.
“And all done with no damage to the sofa underneath.
“We used wooden batons to pull the fabric taught and to secure the existing beams underneath.”
We think Jan’s sofa looks fabulous, and for less than £75, it was clearly a fabulous way to add style to her space, without having to splash too much cash.
Facebook users were clearly left stunned by Jan’s sofa transformation, which has quickly racked up almost 4,000 likes in just four days.
