Owl freed from Upper Arlington home's chimney

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) -- This is the time of year when many might expect some company in their chimneys, but this week, a central Ohio family found a surprise in theirs.

An owl found its way into an Upper Arlington chimney and couldn’t get out.

The homeowner called TLC Wildlife Management, and experts from the company came out and were able to safely free the bird.

TLC management said the owl likely blew in during recent wind and had some minor injuries. It spent a few days healing at the Ohio Wildlife Center. It was then released into a park near the home it was found in.

"They were aware of this barred owl even prior to us having anything to do with it, they were very familiar with it on their property, in their trees, so they were very excited to see it was doing well and able to be released back into the wild where it belongs,” TLC Wildlife Management owner/operator Adam Turpen said.

TLC Wildlife experts said this should serve as a good reminder to make sure the chimney on your home is properly capped.
