Spurs first half player ratings vs Rangers – Lilywhites look lost at the Ibrox

0

The first forty-five minutes of Europa League action in Glasgow has come to an end, and it’s time for Spurs vs Rangers player ratings, as both sides head into the break on level terms.

The teams are now in their respective dressing rooms, preparing to go toe-to-toe once again in the second period.

Over the duration of the first half, we’ve analysed each Tottenham player’s individual performance against Rangers, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s take a look at how they got on.

Spurs first-half player ratings vs Rangers

Fraser Forster: Forster made a hugely important fingertip save early into the half, tipping a fierce shot over the bar. He was called into action quite a lot throughout the half, but stood strong and firm, preserving his clean sheet for now. 7.

Pedro Porro: The Spaniard was poor defensively once again, always leaving Rangers’ extra wide-man free to receive the ball. It seemed he was in two minds throughout a lot of the first-half, and he also lost possession cheaply more than once. Really poor, again. 3.

Radu Dragusin: Playing on his unfavoured left side of defence, the Romanian defender faced a tough Rangers’ frontline alongside an unfamiliar defensive partner. Despite Radu’s recent run of games, Gray looked the more comfortable of the two, with and without the ball. I can’t say anything too negative about Dragusin though, as he was rather solid. 6.

Archie Gray: The young Archie Gray had quite the task on his hands as he filled in in an unfamiliar position yet again this season. He made multiple important interventions for the Lilywhites and was strong, battling hard and looking determined. He was caught out in possession a couple of times as he looked to drive forward, but the youngster was arguably Spurs’ best player in the last forty-five minutes of football. 7.

Destiny Udogie: Destiny struggled to make the left-side of the pitch his own as Cerny posed a real threat. The fullback was overrun at times, although he was better defensively as the half grew on. Most of Rangers’ real chances were created on the opposite flank. 5.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Bentancur looked sluggish and off the pace, perhaps a result of his lack of football as of late. 5.

Yves Bissouma: I struggled to come up with any positive points in regards to Bissouma’s first-half display. The Mali international was constantly second to the ball, and the fact that the game was so open was a dead giveaway that the midfield was too weak, in and out of possession, with Bissouma being one of the main culprits. 4.

James Maddison: Maddison was desperate to be influential in the first forty-five and give Ange Postecoglou something to think about, but he was relatively subpar for most of it, despite his positive mindset when he had the ball. He always looked for the forward pass, but he didn’t force it. Positive signs, but room for improvement. 6.

Brennan Johnson: The Welshamn was kept at bay by his opposition fullback, and he failed to create anything from the right flank. He had a big chance arriving at the near post that he fired staright at the keeper, but the flag was raised anyway. 5.

Heung-min Son: Sonny was quiet throughout the half, often picking the wrong option in terms of the final ball in attack. He didn’t have any presence in the box either, and so when the rare cross was whipped in by Spurs, it often led to nothing. 4.

Timo Werner: The German blazed a half-chance over the bar early on, and struggled to beat his man when he was one-on-one with him in the channel. He was neutralised for much of the half, and posed almost no threat to Tavernier whatsoever. 4.
