AN ICONIC classic Jenson of which only 50 were ever made is set to go on auction after it was lovingly restored to its former glory.

This ultra rare 1974 Jensen Interceptor S Cabriolet has been owned by a single family since its makeover.

It comes with just 13,000 miles on the clock and is number 9 of the just 50 models that were produced.

Images show the bespoke resto-mod finished in dark blue metallic paint, with a tan leather cabin, and a tan and black dashboard.

The muscle car is powered by a 6.0L LS2 V8 engine that produces 414hp, and also comes with new 17″ alloy wheels.

It also features a black power-operated soft top roof, quad headlights, and a dual exhaust.

The car was restored in 2007 by UK-based Cropredy Bridge Cars who set out to build just 50 of the individually numbered modern Jensen Interceptor masterpieces.

This meant the original model was stripped bare and rebuilt from the ground up with modern additions.

It’s set to be auctioned soon by SBX Cars in Maraussan, France.

The listing reads: “Highlights of the restoration also include a fully independent suspension replacing the original leaf-sprung live rear axle.”

“After being completely disassembled, stripped to bare metal, and rebuilt with modern paint techniques to go with the potent 414-horse V8, this Interceptor is entirely different.

“Its 4-speed automatic routes power to the rear wheels with a limited-slip differential.

“It features a tan leather interior, new in 2007, with quilted inserts extending from seats to door panels and centre console.”

Part of the modern upgrades to the vehicle include an engine start button as well as a Sony head unit that has iPod connectivity.

The vehicle may also be the only left-hand-drive model in existence, according to the seller.

A section of the auction listing read: “The owner’s father commissioned the Cropready build of this 1974 Jensen Interceptor S in October 2007, and his son (the seller) took possession upon completion in February 2008.

“In storage since the owner’s passing, it remains with his family and per the seller may be the only left-hand-drive model in existence.”

There are also some noted imperfections on the car, including a scuff and scratch on the exterior paint as well as minor wear on the driver’s seat.

Top Gear has called the Interceptor the “Great British muscle car” in the past, while Jay Leno compared it to a Dodge Coronet that “went to college at Oxford.”

Its auction begins on December 23.
