Mayor Eric Adams to discuss immigration with incoming US border czar

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A high-stakes talk will be held on Thursday between New York City Mayor Eric Adams and President-elect Donald Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan.

Their sit-down follows Adams' calls to deport migrants who commit violent crimes and Trump's vow to deport millions of immigrants soon after he's sworn into office.

City Hall announced that 25 more migrant shelters will close over the next few months, including ones at Floyd Bennett Field and Randall's Island.

The city is also not renewing a pilot program that gives migrants pre-paid debit cards.

Around 200,000 migrants have come into New York City over the past two years, officials said.

Trump has been adamant about launching widespread deportations on the first day of his next term, starting with migrants with criminal records.

The meeting between Adams and Homan is set for 1 p.m. Immigrant rights advocates will rally at City Hall to denounce the meeting.

Adams has previously said he believes it's time to revisit the city's sanctuary status laws. The City Council has been firm that its members must be part of any change to those laws.
