India announces formula for classifying green steel

India's steel ministry has unveiled a three-tiered 'green steel' classification system. Steel with under 2.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions per tonne of finished steel is considered "green." The cleanest, "five-star," has under 1.6 tonnes of emissions, while "three-star" falls between 2 and 2.2 tonnes.
