Demi Moore Admits She Suffered From Imposter Syndrome Ahead of Her Career Comeback

0

Demi Moore is never going to forget this year after her turn in the body-horror film, The Substance, brought her award-show acclaim. She’s currently basking in the glow of her Golden Globe nomination and campaigning for a possible Oscar nod early next year. Still, the 62-year-old actress admits that she felt imposter syndrome in Hollywood before she took the role in The Substance.

“I’ve had a very long career, but I haven’t really ever been part of the conversations that allowed me to be part of [awards shows] and to really receive the love and celebration of my work. I’m really just so humbled,” Moore said at the San Francisco Film Festival on Monday, Dec. 9, via Too Fab. Now that everyone is buzzing about her career, she feels comfortable revealing that she almost quit the entertainment industry just two years ago.

THE SUBSTANCE, Demi Moore, 2024.

“At the beginning of 2022, I had a moment where I was at an event, and I felt I didn’t belong. I didn’t know why I was there,” she added. I” wanted to be invisible and I couldn’t figure out how to get out. And I thought, ‘You know what? Maybe my time doing this is complete. Maybe I’ve done everything I was supposed to do.’ … Two weeks later, the script for The Substance came across my desk.”

The movie has also changed her relationship with aging and her career. “My particular perception is that regardless of what is going on outside of you, the real issue is how you are relating to the issue,” Moore said at the Cannes Film Festival in May, via Deadline. “I look for things that push me out of my comfort zone; the opportunity to make a better person and actor. This touched on so many themes that we all face, we seek validation and belonging. By doing (the movie) it takes us to extremes and allows us to step into it in a unique way.”

Moore isn’t the only actress over 50 experiencing a career comeback this award show season, Pamela Anderson is also a Golden Globe nominee for The Last Showgirl. The 57-year-old actress is reminding people that she’s more than a lifeguard running in slow-motion on a beach. “And I’m humbled that the red bathing suit is etched into pop culture. So please join me in celebrating this new chapter. Let me try to change your mind. My life is an open book. I have no secrets,” she shared at the 20th Zurich Film Festival in October, per People.

Both women are vying for that coveted Oscar nomination which will be announced on Friday, Jan. 17. Their talent is shining a bright light on women over 50 and they hope to represent this season of life proudly in March at the Dolby Theatre.
