8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” In last week’s 12th episode, Sam won the reward challenge and chose to bring Andy and Genevieve with him to the Survivor Sanctuary. Back at camp, Teeny made it known that she was not happy with Sam’s decision. The next day, Andy came up with a plan dubbed “Operation: Italy” which required Sam and Genevieve to pretend one of them had a hidden immunity idol so that the other four girls would split their votes between them. The plan worked perfectly, and Caroline became cannon fodder when Andy’s original target, Rachel, won immunity. Caroline was ousted by only three votes, while Sam and Genevieve both received two.
8:04 p.m. – As the last remaining Tuku player, Sue was relieved that she has an idol no one knows about because it may be all she has left to keep her in the game. Because of the betrayal, Sue was setting her sights on getting revenge on Andy next. Meanwhile, Andy was feeling like he helped pull off “the coolest move ever” with Genevieve and Sam and wants to continue working with them through the end of the game. Sue’s issue with Andy is that he keeps flip flopping and she has “no respect” for flip floppers. When Andy got to speak to Teeny about it, he told her that he realized last minute that it’s best for them that Caroline and Sue were separated, but insisted that he didn’t plan it with Sam and Genevieve. To further their ruse, Sam and Genevieve pulled Andy and Teeny in for a chat to discuss how it was a “happy accident” that Andy joined their vote and Sam convinced Genevieve not to play her idol so that they came out of the tribal with Caroline gone and the idol still in play. Teeny left that conversation not trusting anybody, but committing to vote with them to oust Rachel next because she’s the biggest challenge threat going forward.
8:08 p.m. – While Teeny was down speaking with the three, Rachel got a funny feeling and followed her. Even in the darkness she could hear their entire conversation where they discuss how strong Rachel is in the game, including Teeny saying “she can’t win” and telling Sam and Genevieve about the Block a Vote advantage. Rachel was relieved that none of them know she has an idol so she has the power to “turn this game around” if she plays it correctly.
8:13 p.m. – The next morning, Sue was feeling desperate and alone in the game so she woke up early to hope for a miracle that she’d find another idol or advantage somewhere. As she was digging around the well, Rachel approached and sensing her desperation confessed to her that she also has an idol and apologized for never telling anyone. Despite having the opportunity to share her own secret with Rachel, Sue did not tell Rachel she also has an idol because she hopes she can hold on to her own since she knows everyone wants Rachel out anyway. In a confessional, Rachel admitted that she told Sue because she “needs” her and devised a plan to pretend like Teeny is still with them even if they know she’s not.
8:20 p.m. – For the Day 23 immunity challenge, Jeff brought the final six out to the water to “bob and weave” in a water obstacle course and puzzle race. They also competed for a reward trip to the Sanctuary where they’d be greeted by steak, potatoes, wine and cheesecake. Genevieve and Sam got out to an early lead in the challenge, but it was Genevieve that reached the puzzle first. She only managed to get a small head start before Rachel caught up and kept an even pace until Genevieve pulled ahead with one successful placement after another until she clinched the win and her own spot in the final five. As the winner of her first individual immunity win, Genevieve also got to choose one person to join her. Sam immediately asked Genevieve to “not waste a spot” on him and so she chose Sue instead. For her second and last spot, Genevieve picked Teeny to join them.
8:33 p.m. – At the Sanctuary reward feast, Genevieve’s “objective” was to convince both of them that Rachel is the biggest target and to “not push too aggressively.” She declared openly that she’ll be voting for Rachel no matter what. Teeny admitted that she can’t beat Rachel at any of the challenges and she “kinda wants to eliminate that option.” Sue was okay with that because she knows Rachel has an idol and that as long as everyone votes her then they can decide who actually goes home. Teeny accidentally let slip in front of Sue that Genevieve has an idol, but Sue played it off with a fist bump and congratulated her. Genevieve wasn’t that worried about it because she knows it’s fake anyway and the more people that believe she has one the better it is for her chances at avoiding the votes.
8:36 p.m. – Back at camp, Rachel told Andy and Sam that they’ve “handed” her the game by working with her because none of them can beat her in the end. Sam saw their time together as a chance to let everything out in the open as the three original Gata members. He told Rachel that he “had to find another way to move forward” because she was working with Tuku and people that weren’t willing to work with him. He was direct about Rachel being the biggest threat to him winning. Rachel said she’s “pissed,” but acknowledges it’s a game and none of it is personal. She was able to “play into [her] imminent death” by crying in front of the guys, all to make it seem like she knows she’s going home.
8:39 p.m. – Still, Rachel pulled Andy away on his own to hopefully convince him that they should all vote Sam out over her. Rachel was able to feed into the belief that Andy is underestimated by everyone and that he’ll lose to Sam because he has friends on the jury, but he has a better narrative if he’s sitting next to her.
8:45 p.m. – When all six players were back together, Genevieve’s objective was to make sure that no one sways from the “easy vote” of going for Rachel. Sam felt like he’s Rachel’s target and so he felt “uneasy” that he might be in trouble if anyone switches. Sure enough, Rachel was telling Andy that she’s using her Block a Vote to stop Sam from voting and writing his name down, leaving “the ball” in Andy’s court to decide who goes home. Andy wanted Rachel and Sue to promise a final three with him, which they both agreed to and promised that they won’t vote him out next if he votes Sam out with them. Rachel played up the fact that Genevieve didn’t even take him on the reward and that Sam would have been her first choice.
8:48 p.m. – Sue and Rachel discussed whether or not Rachel should play her idol. Rachel somewhat believed they could have swayed Andy to their side, but Sue insisted that she has to play it because they’re all voting for her and she’s certain Andy went to them with everything Rachel just pitched. Later, Andy was upfront with Rachel that he’s voting her out and made a weird pitch to her about keeping her respect even when she’s on the jury. The conversation actually made Rachel think of Andy as “more of a threat” than she was giving him credit for and so she started to think maybe they should send him home instead of Sam.
8:55 p.m. – At tribal council, Teeny was open about the fact that there have been many times in the game that she didn’t know what happened and then perpetuated the lie she was told that the last vote was an accident. When Sam started talking about the accident, Rachel called “bullsh*t” on that and said that Andy flipped. Eventually Andy admitted that he flipped, but it was still unclear whether he was fully working on that flip as a plan or on his own. Andy, Genevieve and Sam all said that it’s out in the open that they’re voting for Rachel this time. Teeny even jumped on board to throw Rachel under the bus because she knows she can’t beat her at fire, but Sue stuck to her guns and said that she’s remaining loyal and not voting for Rachel.
9:01 p.m. – As promised, Rachel blocked Sam’s vote and we saw Andy and Genevieve both vote for Rachel. When prompted by Jeff, Rachel played her idol for herself and so none of the votes for her counted. Jeff read the votes: Rachel, Rachel, Rachel, Andy, Andy. The move and successful oust of Andy garnered smiles from the jury and a hand over the heart from Caroline, making a strong visible case for Rachel as a jury fave.
9:06 p.m. – Back at camp, Rachel declared the night “a huge tribal for” herself and everyone was happy to congratulate her on the achievement. Both Rachel and Genevieve shared the stories of how they came to possess their real (and fake) idols with another open acknowledgment that they’ve been “dancing around each other” as the two biggest targets left. Rachel described it as them both having recognized each other as similar players as soon as the merge hit and so they’ve always been set on getting the other out.
9:12 p.m. – The next morning, Rachel was up early looking for the replaced idol that she played and everyone else was back at camp knowing full well what she was doing. With all the revived idol talk, Sue was secure knowing that she has one and that when she plays it they’ll stop underestimating her. She said in a confessional that she always knew she’d make it this far with it still in her pocket. Eventually Genevieve got up to shadow Rachel around on her hunt which afforded Rachel the opportunity to ask Genevieve who wins if neither of them get to the end. Genevieve answered Sam.
9:15 p.m. – While the two power players were out and about, Sam started the conversation with Sue and Teeny about the conversation from the previous night where Rachel and Genevieve were openly calling themselves the two great players of the season. Sue called it “showboating” and Teeny echoed the sentiment that they should be offended by how they see themselves. In this moment, the three of them all agreed that the winner isn’t necessarily between Genevieve and Rachel.
9:21 p.m. – For the Day 24 challenge, Jeff emphasized that this is the most important immunity of the season because everyone’s fate would more or less be in their own hands at the final four fire making challenge. To earn this immunity, the players had to race to dig themselves under a log and then balance on a beam while stacking six balls and stands faster than anyone else. Sue was through the sand first followed by Sam and Teeny then Rachel and Genevieve later. In the lead, Sue dropped her stack of balls and stands first, but so did everyone else and so the playing field evened out quickly. Eventually Genevieve got the lead as the first to a stack of four, but then her and Rachel both dropped when placing their fifth balls. Later, Rachel and Genevieve both reached five again though Rachel had the slight lead this time as she went to place her sixth and final ball. Moving very slowly, Rachel placed her sixth ball successfully and then raced back to her podium to claim the safety she needed to advance to the final four with her third individual immunity win.
9:34 p.m. – Rachel returned to camp declaring that she “knew she needed” the immunity necklace in order to earn her place in the finals. Sam felt like it was a “defeating” result, but had hope that he could throw Genevieve’s fake idol under the bus in order to get the others to safely vote for her instead of him. Sam told Teeny that he knows she may not believe him, but that he helped Genevieve make the fake idol and confessed that Andy knew it, too. Teeny said that it makes everything “make more sense” and so Sam believed that Teeny believed the truth he was telling her. His hope that the betrayal would lead Teeny to convince herself and the others that they all need to vote Genevieve out.
9:38 p.m. – In order to come to her own conclusion, Teeny had to “rewind the tapes” about all the things that didn’t make sense for her in the game and how many times Genevieve has deceived her in the game. She wanted this to be her chance to finally “end this chapter” of being fooled by Genevieve. Teeny told Sue and Rachel about Sam’s conversation, but they were less sure that it was a real story and imagined that they concocted it in order to get them to vote for Genevieve so that they can determine who goes home.
9:40 p.m. – As a last chance to discover what the truth is, Teeny went to Genevieve directly and asked her to tell her if it’s real or fake. Genevieve right away admitted that it’s fake and that she’s “a sitting duck,” but knew that “perception is reality” so it’s up to everyone’s perception about who they believe. Even after this conversation, Rachel and Sue said that they should load their votes on one of them without a clear understanding of whether the idol is real or fake.
9:47 p.m. – At the second tribal council, the jury seemed impressed that Rachel had a third immunity necklace and safety once again. In the start of the conversation with Jeff, Teeny opened up to the jury that there’s new information about Genevieve’s fake idol and so the group discussed how the amount of truths and untruths told this season has made it hard to decipher what’s real at this point of the game. Sam explained that it was in the interest of his own game to spill secrets to Teeny knowing that it would spread, but Teeny freely accepted that and then said that she’s “certainly uncertain” about what will happen tonight. Before getting to the vote, Rachel whispered to Teeny that she thinks she’ll get the “ricochet” if Genevieve’s idol is real and they all vote for her, seemingly making the case to send Sam home instead.
9:53 p.m. – Once the votes were cast, Genevieve could not play her fake idol but showed it to the others anyway and then Sue played her real one (Genevieve called it “the red paint idol”) for herself. Jeff read the votes: Genevieve, Sam, Sam, Genevieve, Genevieve. Freshly voted out, Genevieve apologized to Teeny for all the spinning she caused her and gave everyone a hug. Sam seemed impressed that Sue had an idol fully secret for such a long period of time. Jeff confirmed for the final four that they can no longer be voted out of the game and that after the challenge on the morrow, they’d all at least have the chance to save themselves by building fire.
