'Yellowstone' Isn't Over—2 Fan Favorite Characters Will Return for Spin-Off

0

This weekend will mark the end of an era. After five seasons, Yellowstone will come to a close on Sunday, but, perhaps unsurprisingly, the universe of Yellowstone will continue. Just as fans have begun to mourn the ending of the series, news appears that the present-day drama will continue after Season 5. There won’t be a Season 6 of Yellowstone, but a new spinoff focused just on Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) is almost 100 percent happening.

According to Variety, the spinoff show is very much in the works, with Reilly and Hauser returning as co-leads. When it materializes, the Beth and Rip series will be the ninth spinoff of Taylor Sheridan's sprawling Yellowstone franchise. Notably, however, it will be the first series that will be a direct sequel itself. Most other Yellowstone spinoff shows—like 1923 and 1883—are prequels. Beth & Rip (assuming that’s what it’s called) will be set in present day, and likely right after the events of Yellowstone Season 5.

For fans who have felt let-down by the conclusion of Yellowstone, the prospect of a Beth and Rip spinoff is fantastic news. After Kevin Costner hastily exited Yellowstone, his character, John Dutton, was killed-off. Now, the remaining episodes of the series have been focused on the aftermath of Dutton’s death, leading some fans to worry that the show wouldn’t end with its best boot forward.

But now, a series focused on Beth Dutton (John’s daughter) and Rip (John’s son-in-law) is bound to more-or-less pick up where this season left off. Beth has been many viewers' favorite character for several seasons now anyway. The Beth and Rip show isn’t Yellowstone Season 6, but, it’s the next best thing.

The series finale of Yellowstone airs on the Paramount Network on Sunday, December 15, at 8pm EST.
