Khamenei: US and Israel orchestrated Syria’s collapse

Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in his first response to the fall of the Syrian government, stated that the events in Damascus were orchestrated by the United States and Israel.

On Wednesday, December 11, Khamenei spoke at a religious gathering in Tehran, where he accused the U.S. and Israel of being the main players behind the recent developments in Syria.

This was the first time Khamenei has publicly addressed the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria.

According to Khamenei, “There should be no doubt that the main force behind what happened in Syria was designed in the command rooms of the U.S. and Israel.” He, as a key supporter of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, argued that the fall of the government backed by Iran does not equate to Iran’s defeat.

He further asserted, “The scope of resistance will now encompass the entire region even more than before.” However, this comes at a time when governments and groups supported by Iran are being gradually dismantled.

Khamenei’s statements reflect Iran’s ongoing commitment to supporting its regional allies, especially in Syria, despite the shifting geopolitical landscape. His rhetoric underscores the strategic importance Iran places on Syria and its broader influence in the Middle East.
