Ruben Amorim’s side will be determined to get back to winning ways following successive losses to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Any notion of Amorim waltzing in and waving a magic wand has now been extinguished and his warning that supporters would have to “suffer” before things improved looks fully justified.

The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League with just five wins from 15 matches and have the Manchester derby to come at the Etihad on Sunday.

There’s also the shambles of Dan Ashworth’s sudden exit as sporting director after just five months having very publicly poached him from Newcastle United for a fee of around £2-3million.

So a victory against Viktoria Plzen would be a welcome relief for club morale, and it’s mightily important if they want to progress automatically into the round of 16 and obtain seeded status.

Manchester United are 12th on nine points, with the Czech side directly behind them on goal difference with three matches remaining.

United are unbeaten in their five Europa League games this season (W2 D3), but they remain winless on the road in their last SEVEN games in all competitions – their joint-longest run in the 21st century.

They’ve also never beaten Czech opposition before (D2 L1).

As for Viktoria Plzen, they arrive in excellent form having won six of their last seven – including an impressive 2-1 win over Spanish side Real Sociedad.

In fact, the Czechs are unbeaten in 13 home games this season (W10, D3) and have only tasted defeat twice in 28 competitive matches this season.

As mentioned, Viktoria Plzen have been very impressive on home turf this season – winning 10 of their 13 competitive matches. In those games, they’ve scored 22 goals and registered eight clean sheets.

They have somewhat of a free hit against a Manchester United side who are odds-on favourites to win the encounter, but Amorim’s side are vulnerable on the road having failed to win in seven, while they’ve also conceded 2+ goals in three of their last four games in all competitions.

Most improved

Amad Diallo has been one of the main beneficiaries of Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

He’s thriving in his new role at right wing-back having struck more efforts on goal than any other Manchester United player since Amorim took charge (8).
