Package left in courthouse leads to two arrests, St. Martin Sheriff says
ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Two people are facing contraband-related charges in connection with a package that was left in a courtroom area designated for inmates, according to the St. Martinville Parish Sheriff's Office.
In a news release Tuesday, Sheriff Becket Breaux announced the arrest of 22-year-old Orionne Brown, of Lafayette, on one count of principal to introducing contraband into a penal facility.
The sheriff said 28-year-old Antonio Potier, who is a current inmate at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, was charged with introducing contraband into a penal facility.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in mid-November when it was reported to deputies that an unknown person left a package in the courtroom area of the Breaux Bridge Courthouse in an area that is designated for inmates who are attending court proceedings.
During the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Brown. The sheriff's office said Brown turned herself in.
The investigation remains ongoing.
