Schenectady CSD chooses vendor for weapons detection system

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Schenectady Board of Education has chosen a weapons detection system for the high school. The board adopted a resolution to purchase 15 weapons detection systems and five body scanners from MIS Security, LLC, a Florida-based security company.

The systems will cost $618,000 and will be paid in installments over three years.

The school board decided to implement a weapons detection system in response to concerns about safety. Several fights broke out at the high school in the first few weeks of the school year. One involved a knife and sent two students to the hospital.

Students and parents had a chance to see different security systems at a safety fair in October. The district plans to install the systems during winter break.
