Vaughn Cannon sentenced to life without parole for wife's murder

0

EL RENO, Okla. (KFOR) — Vaughn Cannon will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of ever getting out. In September, he pled guilty to the murder of his wife, Jordan Pyle, after initially pleading not guilty.

Both Cannon and Pyle were former Cleveland County Sheriff's deputies.

Tuesday was an emotional day as Jordan Pyle's family and friends filled a Canadian County courtroom.

Her family and friends wore homemade pins to remember her during the sentencing.

Multiple people took the witness stand, including Cannon’s ex wife.

During her testimony, she became emotional as she told the judge she was abused during her previous marriage with Cannon.

An investigator with the Oklahoma City Police Department also took the stand. He broke down the body camera footage and also said evidence showed Pyle was shot 12 times in the face in August 2023.

The investigator also broke down journal entries written by Pyle.

One entry said, "I miss him. Not the drunk one, the one I love." Another one said, "He pushed me into a mirror."

Multiple victim impact statements were read, with one from Cannon’s son, who told his dad, "You are a disgrace. What you did to us is unforgivable."

Pyle’s dad also got emotional thinking about his little girl.

"Even though we didn’t go to trial, there was still a lot of evidence there today that we saw that we were hoping we didn’t have to see….that’s my baby girl," said Rusty Pyle, Jordan Pyle's dad.

As the state shared their closing arguments, Cannon sat with his head low. His hands covered his ears as the state went into detail on Pyle’s death.

Later, Cannon took the stand and told the state he wouldn't look at the last photo of Pyle after the shooting.

In a statement, Cannon talked to his wife's family and friends. He said, "Grief is brutal," and "I especially failed my beloved wife, Jordan."

"I think it was only just that he spent the rest of his life in prison. You know, take his freedom away from him like he took her life away from her," said Rusty Pyle.

The judge sentenced Vaughn Cannon to life without the possibility of parole. Cannon can choose to appeal the sentence in 10 days.
