Sports briefs: Cifuentes scores three to lead Terra Linda to victory
Sophomore midfielder Johan Cifuentes scored a hat trick as the Terra Linda High boys soccer team rallied for a wild 4-3 victory against Archie Williams on Tuesday.
Cifuentes scored TL’s first goal in the 20th minute but the Trojans trailed 3-2 midway through the second half. Cifuentes tied the game with about 15 minutes to play off an assist from Monty Cooke then scored his second unassisted goal with about 5 minutes left to put TL in front for good.
Archie Williams (1-1-1) was in front 3-1 in the first half but couldn’t hold onto the lead. Cole Greene scored the second goal for TL (2-0-1) off an assist by Diego Santizo.
- Mateo Trammel scored off an assist from Bode Dossey as Branson (0-2-1) battled Tam to a 1-1 non-league draw on Tuesday.
- Enrique Guzman scored for the second consecutive game as Marin Catholic secured a 1-0 victory against San Domenico on Tuesday. Guzman scored following an assist from Griffin Jones. Center back Charlie Carroll was also a standout and won a lot of aerial duels according to coach Lucas Marroquin.
Girls soccer
Raya Leikin had a pair of assists as Marin Academy got past Terra Linda 3-1 on Tuesday. Sadie Goodenough opened the scoring for MA (2-0-1) then Leikin found Reese Goodenough for the second goal. Kacy Walker got MA’s third goal on Leikin’s second assist.
Josie Quinby scored on a free kick in the 65th minute to get TL (2-1-1) on the board.
- Luna Diaz scored twice and added an assist for Branson in a 4-0 road victory at Ukiah. Riley Pearson got the Bulls (5-0-0) off to a fast start, scoring in the fourth minute following a Diaz assist. Diaz netted the next two with one either side of halftime, assisted by Anya Sridharan and Sophia Duran, respectively. Giselle Hernandez capped the scoring in the 73rd minute, off a pass from Hailey Sellers.
- Archie Williams (1-2-1) picked up its first win of the season, taking down North Coast Section Division II runner-up Las Lomas 1-0 on Tuesday night.
- Ava Korich scored the game-tying goal to help Marin Catholic gain a 2-2 draw at home against Monte Vista on Monday. Sloane Carey gave MC (2-1-1) a 1-0 first-half lead, finishing off a chance created by Lana Whilborg. MC held that lead until the 60-minute mark then Monte Vista scored two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. Savannah Browne had the assist to Korich on the equalizer.
- Lily Plunkett scored twice and Piper Papay had a pair of assists as San Domenico picked up a 5-0 victory against Novato on Tuesday. The Panthers (2-0-1) also got goals from Audrey High, Lucy Fredrickson, and Kiera Plunkett.
