Brooklyn's Sweet Success: Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop opens first physical store
PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- After a decade of online triumph, Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop has transformed its digital success into a charming brick-and-mortar storefront in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood.
Founder Susan Palmer, a self-taught baker, couldn't contain her excitement about this milestone. "I feel great," she shared, reflecting on a journey that began in a tiny seven-by-seven kitchen with an oven so small she "could only fit a quarter sheet tray in there."
The bakery's expansion was unexpected. "We drove past one day and saw the for rent sign," Palmer recalled. "Everything kind of came together and we just figured now's the time. It's the 10th year and this is the time to make the move."
Local supporters are enthusiastic about the new venture. Terry Goyer, one of the first customers, offered words of encouragement: "I wish them good luck, attitude is everything and by being welcoming and warm and offering good quality, they will make it, they will be successful."
Randy Peers, President of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, sees the bakery's expansion as a broader economic indicator. "These are small businesses, this is what makes the neighborhood special," Peers noted. He emphasized that "Brooklyn has been the driver of economic growth since COVID" and views Little Red Kitchen as "a perfect example of that."
Meanwhile, Palmer encourages aspiring entrepreneurs as Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop embarks on this exciting new chapter. "I feel like I've accomplished a lot," she said. "There are a lot of hard days, but there are a lot of good days and if you really, truly love what you do and you're passionate, you can do it."
The bakery offers an enticing array of treats, including cookies, brownies, and even freshly baked goodies for dogs. Customers can now visit the store Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information can be found on the store's website.
