Red Sox Make Change To Some Home Games For 2025 Season
The Boston Red Sox will follow the trend begun by several other teams across the league and will have earlier start times for select home games during the 2025 season.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday they will move their regular 7:10 p.m. ET start time up 25 minutes to 6:45 p.m. for 15 weeknight home games in April, May and September.
The new start time will come in games against the Toronto Blue Jays (April 7-9), Seattle Mariners (April 22-23), Texas Rangers (May 6-7), New York Mets (May 19-22), Cleveland Guardians (Sept. 2-3) and Athletics (Sept. 16-17).
Starting games earlier at Fenway Park is something the Red Sox brass has taken into consideration for a couple of years now.
“We’re looking at start times in the context of what’s best for our fans, what’s best for the baseball operation,” Red Sox president Sam Kennedy told reporters in October 2022, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “We’ve had lots of discussions with players and (Alex Cora) and his staff and baseball operations.”
Start times getting moved up for these select weeknight games, especially in the worst weather months of the season, should lead to fans leaving the ballpark earlier, especially with the implementation of the pitch clock reducing the time of games by half an hour.
Still, the majority of Red Sox night games at Fenway for the season will occur at 7:10 p.m.
Tickets for the early start time games, the 2025 home opener, Patriots’ Day and matchups against the New York Yankees and reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.
