A source said: “The BBC have gone all out with their Strictly surprises this year — and having Ruth in as Nessa is the cherry on the cake. Last Saturday they had Wallace and Gromit read the Ts and Cs for voting, and Ruth will be doing a skit as Nessa this week.
“The BBC have worked really hard to get these off the ground and it’s a great cross-promotion for what will be their two biggest shows at Christmas.
“Strictly fans loved seeing Wallace and Gromit and the BBC think they’ll be thrilled when Nessa pops up on Saturday night.”
Ruth and her Gavin & Stacey co-star James Corden, who plays Smithy, have written one final episode of the hit series which will air on Christmas Day.
The 2019 Christmas special, which ended on the cliffhanger of Nessa proposing to Smithy, was the most-watched TV comedy show since Only Fools and Horses in 2002.
Only sporting events and The X Factor 2010 final with One Direction attracted more viewers in ten years.
Ruth and James were on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show to reveal they are taking over as presenters on Monday, December 23, with other cast members as special guests.
The final episode features Joanna Page as Stacey and Mathew Horne as Gavin, alongside Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon.
Joanna previously said: “I’m so excited to see the gang again and I can’t wait to find out if Smithy has said yes. I can’t wait to find out what’s happening to everybody.”
