In reaching ten goals across all competitions, Brennan Johnson has already doubled his goalscoring output from last season. This has been aided by additionally playing in the Europa League where Johnson has scored three times, but what is more impressive is the versatility he is bringing to his attacking threat.

Last year, four of his 5 goals scored were inside the 6-yard box with the other coming on the counter. So far this season, we have seen similar back-post tap-ins but also drilled shots to the far post, left-foot finishes and meeting cutbacks.

Being a consistent threat from different situations and areas of the box is an invaluable contribution to Tottenham. However, more impressive still is Johnson’s ability to continue growing. It will be fascinating to see what he can add to his game next.

Brennan Johnson is grateful to be working alongside Son Heung-min and admits that he has been studying his game since before joining Tottenham.

Johnson said (DailyMail): “It’s been amazing to work alongside of him. He’s an unbelievable player. There are so many things in his game I admire and have admired for a long time now.

“He can play off both feet, his work rate, his leadership, his professionalism. There are so many things and most importantly he’s such a nice guy as well. It’s an honour to play alongside him.”

Emulating Son is a sure path to Spurs success for Brennan Johnson

Johnson still has so much to add to his game. The change Spurs fans have seen in his finishing is indicative of someone who is working relentlessly to bring consistency to his ball-striking.

Brennan Johnson already has the off-the-ball movement of an established box striker and a defensive work rate Tottenham needs to defend from the front.

The two players have different skills, but if Johnson can emulate Son’s leadership and bravery, then he will be an indispensable asset for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham for many years to come.
