3 Central Texas cities among those with largest population growth in Texas

0

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Three cities in Central Texas saw some of the largest population growth in the Lone Star State.

SmartAsset, a financial technology company, used census data to show which U.S. cities had the largest one-year change in population.

“The magnitude of the population change can affect demand for businesses and services, which in turn may impact costs – or even the availability of such amenities. Similarly, the relative age of the population can determine the strength or weakness of the local job market, as well as have an impact on local culture, economic trajectory, tax base and more,” SmartAsset said.

The data showed two U.S. cities grew by more than 12%. One of the cities was New Braunfels at 12.49%.

“Despite relative decreases in the elderly and youth population, the population of people aged 20 to 54 grew significantly year over year in New Braunfels, TX (21.96%),” SmartAsset said about the census data.

According to SmartAsset, two other Texas cities also landed in the top five. Coming in at No. 4 was Georgetown at 11.34%, and Atascocita, which is located near Houston in Southeast Texas, at 11.03%.
