Tottenham want to bolster their squad from the front

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury crisis is not ending any time soon. With it now likely that Ben Davies is also set for a period on the sidelines, eyes are drawn to their paper-thin defence.

Despite missing Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and now Ben Davies, there is still an intention to additionally find players to help make up for Spurs’ attacking absences.

Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur both only have 18 months remaining on their current contracts and Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray need time to develop. It is thought that a versatile midfielder is still a profile Ange Postecoglou is looking to bring in.

Tijani Reijnders set to stay at AC Milan

According to TBR Football, AC Milan midfielder Tijani Reijnders is now prioritising signing a new deal and staying in Milan.

Reijnders had earned interest from Tottenham as well as Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona after impressive Serie A form.

The Dutch midfielder is one of Europe’s best players at progressing the ball through the middle of the pitch. With excellent ball-carrying and progressive passing numbers, it is unsurprising that all the top sides were monitoring his contract situation.

Tottenham need more progressive passers in their team

Tottenham have an array of players who are excellent at carrying the ball. Van de Ven, Bissouma, Kulusevski, Udogie to name a few. However, it is noticeable, especially in the absence of Cristian Romero that the side lacks proficient passers from deep.

While Reijnders may no longer be a viable option, it makes sense for Spurs to identify ball-playing midfielders who can help control possession and progress the ball to the front line.

Even if the intention is for Archie Gray to inherit that role, they will need a senior player capable of contributing as Gray develops over time.
