Joint Statement: Tehran, Baghdad, Damascus warn Syria tensions threaten region

0

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq, and Syria warned that the tensions in Syria threaten regional stability.

On Friday, December 6, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a trilateral meeting between these countries in Baghdad.

According to the statement, the meeting of the foreign ministers focused on regional challenges and the recent events in Syria.

The statement from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads: “Tehran, Baghdad, and Damascus believe that what has happened in Syria is not only a major threat to the security of these three countries but also poses a threat to the entire region.”

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the participants condemned all forms of terrorism, as defined by the United Nations Security Council, and called for collective efforts to combat it.

The statement further stated that Iran, Iraq, and Syria will act in coordination against any developments that may occur in the coming days.

The three countries acknowledged that the security threat to Syria poses a broader risk to the region, and that the only viable option is continued coordination, cooperation, and diplomatic consultations to safeguard the region from all dangers.

Tehran stressed the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

As tensions persist in Syria, the trilateral cooperation between Iran, Iraq, and Syria may play a key role in shaping the future diplomatic landscape of the Middle East. Their emphasis on maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity reflects their shared interest in regional stability.
