US advises citizens to leave Syria immediately
The United States has urged its citizens to leave Syria as soon as possible.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 6, the U.S. Department of State instructed its citizens to take advantage of any available commercial options to leave the country.
This warning comes as anti-government groups, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, continue their attacks.
According to reports, these militias have rapidly captured parts of Homs, and Daraa Syria’s fourth-largest city.
Meanwhile, Syrian opposition forces have announced they are advancing towards Damascus.
The U.S. State Department’s statement further emphasized that the security situation in Syria is worsening and has become increasingly unpredictable.
The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, reported that Assad’s family has moved to Russia. It also stated that Egypt and Jordan have urged Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria, to leave the country.
The deteriorating security conditions in Syria are causing increasing concern among foreign governments, as reflected by the U.S. travel advisory. The rapid advances by opposition forces, particularly near key cities like Homs and Damascus, suggest that the regime’s grip on power is weakening.
As the conflict continues, international pressure on Assad to step down may grow, while the safety of foreign nationals and the local population remains uncertain. The next steps by both the Syrian government and international players will likely have significant implications for the future of the country.
