Qatar brings Hamas leaders back to Doha at Trump’s request
Foreign media outlets have reported that the government of Qatar has brought back Hamas political leaders to Doha at the request of the transition team of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
The Israel Times reported on Friday, December 6, quoting sources, that Trump’s transition team asked the Qatari government to arrange for the return of Hamas leaders to revive peace talks.
According to the report, the Trump team is working to renew negotiations for the release of hostages held in Gaza, and Hamas leaders have returned to Doha to facilitate this.
Trump’s transition team has emphasized that Qatar’s mediation is crucial for the success of the talks aimed at securing the release of the hostages and has stressed that these negotiations need to be revived.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, President Trump warned Hamas that they must release the hostages by January 2025 or face severe consequences in the Middle East.
Hamas, after the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, has stated that it is ready for a ceasefire in Gaza.
These developments indicate a significant shift in diplomatic efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis, with the incoming U.S. administration pushing for renewed negotiations and leveraging regional actors like Qatar.
The outcome of these talks could play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of the Middle East in the coming months.
