0

England ended up taking a massive 533-run lead by the end of the second day of the Test match against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday. 4 players ended up scoring over 50 runs for the Three Lions, namely – Ben Duckett (92), Jacob Bethell (96), Joe Root (61*) and Harry Brook (55) as the visitors piled on a big total 378/5 before the end of day’s play.

During the match, England became the first side in the 147-year history of Test cricket to score 500,000 runs in Test cricket. Australia is currently second with 4,28,868 runs, while the Indian cricket team sits at the third position with 2,78,751 runs.

Coming to the match, seamer Gus Atkinson’s hat-trick helped England in bundling out the hosts for a modest first inning total of 125 after putting on 280 runs thanks to a century from Brook.

In reply to the Kiwis’ small total, England posted over 300 runs on the second day itself thanks to half-centuries from 4 different batters. Root finished the day unbeaten on 61 and will be looking to score yet another Test century when the match resumes for the third day.
