Victim, suspect dead following shooting, standoff south of Eudora
EUDORA, Kan. -- Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Thursday night that continued into a standoff Friday afternoon at a property south of Eudora, Kansas.
According to Douglas County Sheriff Jay Armbrister, police were dispatched to a house in rural Douglas County on an unknown emergency just before 9 p.m. December 5.
A Eudora Police officer arrived on the scene first and reportedly heard a gunshot upon approaching the residence.
Following the reported gunshot, DGSO claims they made phone contact with a man inside the residence and used a drone to confirm that one woman, believed to be the woman who called 911, was "obviously deceased" inside.
Armbrister went on the say that the man continued to make violent threats, including threats of an explosion, which has led police to take a high level of caution. The sheriff also confirmed the suspect was active on social media during the incident .
Since then, police have lost phone contact but have continued to try and identify the suspect's condition.
It is believed that the victim and suspect were involved in a domestic relationship.
Armbrister says that he is "very confident" there is no one else inside the residence, aside from pets.
Just before 4:30 p.m. KHP made entry into the residence and found the suspect deceased.
The identities of both the victim and suspect will be released after family members have been notified.
This is an ongoing investigation, FOX4 will provide updates as they're made available.
