Dinosaur Adventure event coming to Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Get ready to travel back in time to about 60 million years ago! The Dinosaur Adventure event is roaring through Oklahoma City this weekend.

"Everyone loves dinosaurs,” said Joe Aholt, the event’s dinosaur handler. “All the lights are going to be up. They're all going to be moving. You're going to hear the roars and the sounds of the dinosaurs."

Aholt said he calls the event “edu-tainment,” meaning not only will families have fun digging for fossils and racing through a prehistoric themed obstacle course, but it’s also a great place for kids to learn.

"They can see what the dinosaurs look like, how they move, some of them, what they sounded like,” said Aholt. “We've got all sorts of cool facts about them so they can learn, like when they lived, where they lived, what their diet was, who their natural enemies were.”

The Dinosaur Adventure is held at the Oklahoma Expo Hall at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. On Saturday, Dec. 7 it runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

"I think it's a great gateway science,” said Aholt. “It teaches kids about earth sciences and geology and that sort of stuff. It's just, it's something that they can actually see and visualize and start to learn about."
