Khloé Kardashian Sees One of Her Traits in Her Kids — & She Doesn’t Like It

0

When you least expect it, your kids will show you who you are. Maybe they say a naughty word that they heard Daddy say in the car or maybe they surprise you with a calm and compassionate (or short-tempered and sassy!) response to a sibling argument that they’ve seen Mom modeling. They definitely keep you humble, and sometimes, force you to do some self-reflection. (I gotta stop calling people idiots when I’m in traffic!) Recently, Khloé Kardashian caught her kids True, 6, and Tatum, 2, mimicking one of her traits at home — and she didn’t like it at all!

The Good American founder has opened up about her OCD and perfectionist tendencies in the past, and now she revealed that her kids show some of these traits as well. “I had that challenge [of being a perfectionist] a lot more before I had kids,” Kardashian said in a new interview with Bustle. “It was really hard for me to see it as clearly as I do now.”

And she shared how seeing her kids demonstrate perfectionist traits was an eye-opening experience for her. “I notice sometimes my kids will want to line their toys up a certain way, and then I feel bad because I’m like,  ‘Oh gosh, they’re mirroring what I’m doing,” The Kardashians star said. “I know these are silly examples, but I’ve learned it’s OK for me to show a messy room because I don’t want them to feel like everything has to be perfect.”

Yes, girl! It’s OK that things aren’t always perfect — and it’s so great that Kardashian is encouraging her kids to believe the same thing. This confidence is impressive, and also something brought on by motherhood.

“I’m so much kinder to other people than I am to myself,” she told the outlet. “With my kids, I had to learn, well, why do I give so much grace and empathy and understanding to everybody else? It’s OK for me to give myself that same patience and grace.”

Kardashian, who shares True and Tatum with ex Tristan Thomson, opened up parenting “on a schedule” in a June episode of The Kardashians. In a confessional, she explained how her parenting style differs from older sisters Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian. “My sisters and I, we all have different households, we raise our kids differently,” she began. “I’m not judging if everyone’s happy and healthy and great, then wonderful, but my type of parenting is we do everything by a schedule.”

She went on to explain, “My kids do love this security of knowing, ‘Okay, after I take a bath, I know it’s time to get in my pajamas and lay in bed and watch TV with my mommy.’ It works for me and my family. Listen, my kids are 6 and almost 2, who knows? In two or three years from now, I might be like, ‘Okay, I need more of a social [life].’ I don’t know. But right now, this is what makes me happy, and this is where my heart wants to be.”

“My sisters always say, like, I’m so rigid or I have such a strict schedule with my kids,” she later added. “I don’t think I have such a strict schedule. I just have a schedule. We have a time to wake up so we can get ready for school, do hair, breakfast. Then after school we normally have, like, an extracurricular activity. We do have dinner around 6:00, 6:30. It’s not like if you’re not at dinner at 6:01, you’re disciplined… Why are we constantly nitpicking what I do in my personal house if I’m not asking you guys to live the same life? Can’t we all just be, I don’t know, like, the moms we want to be?” Period.
