Man arrested in Albany on 13 year outstanding warrant
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A California man was arrested last week at Albany International Airport in connection to an assault that allegedly took place over a decade ago, the North Greenbush Police Department (NGPD) reported. Lyle Chambers, of Santa Rosa, was taken into custody by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office on November 27.
North Greenbush Police stated that Chambers was accused of assaulting his former girlfriend by striking her head and face with a computer keyboard on February 8, 2010. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Chambers was located one month later and was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree coercion. He was arraigned and initially held on $10,000 bail, but stopped appearing in court in 2011.
Throughout the next 13 years, NGPD attempted to apprehend Chambers, but were unsuccessful due to him leaving the area. On November 27, over a decade later, Chambers was reportedly involved in an altercation at Albany International which resulted in officers checking for any outstanding warrants.
Albany County deputies arrested Chambers at the airport and turned him over into the custody of NGPD on the longstanding warrant, which charged him with failing to appear in court. He was arraigned at the North Greenbush Town Court before being released. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
