Volleyball Today: NIVC begins; coaching carousel spins; Big 12 honors

0
TCU’s Melanie Parra

We’re still a day away from the start of the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball tournament, but the NIVC gets going Wednesday with Binghamton of the America East at the MAC’s Bowling Green. It’s at 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.

The coaching carousel keeps spinning. Belmont fired Katelyn Harrison after six seasons and Oral Roberts has posted about its opening.

The Big 12 announced its season honors Tuesday and the Big Ten does so Wednesday at noon Eastern on the Big Ten Network.

Also in this edition of Volleyball Today, we’ve got a repeat of the first-round NCAA schedule and info to keep up with the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Finals that begin Wednesday in Doha:

Parra tops Big 12 post-season list

From the Big 12:

TCU’s Melanie Parra was named the league’s Player of the Year, the Horned Frogs’ first recipient of the award. Arizona State had Mary Shroll earn the Conference’s Libero of the Year while Argentina Ung was awarded Setter of the Year and JJ Van Niel was unanimously chosen as the Big 12 Coach of the Year in the Sun Devils’ debut season. Kansas’ Reese Ptacek became the second Jayhawk in KU’s history to earn the Freshman of the Year honor joining this season’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Caroline Bien.

NCAA tourney first round

There are 18 matches Thursday. They are not starting early in the day, nor are they spread out. We recommend multiple viewing devices, since every match will be shown only on ESPN+. ESPN will also have its whiparound show, The Fifth Set, which may be the best way for many viewers to keep up. As we noted Tuesday, here’s the link you need to watch the start of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. All the matches will be shown on ESPN+, for which you need a subscription.
