'An exciting feeling': $3M lottery ticket sold in Baldwin
BALDWIN, La. (KLFY) -- Could one local convenience store be a lucky spot? After selling a $3 Million Mega Millions ticket and a winner claiming their wins the store has been getting a lot of attention.
“You know, it's an exciting feeling when your store sells the $3 million ticket. You know, for a store like this in a town small like Baldwin it’s exciting,” said Amir Alrubaidi who sold the winning ticket.
He said the family business, which has been in the community for over a decade, is a lucky spot. In the past two years, they had five lucky jackpots including wins for $25,000, $30,000, $50,000 and $100,000. The recent win claimed on Nov. 27 was the biggest thus far.
“Ever since that winning ticket. Lord have mercy. Everybody just has been coming to buy tickets. Well, I mean, try your luck, but, you know, play responsibly. I try to tell customers, you know, play responsibly, Don't gamble your last, you know, have fun with it. It's a fun thing,” he said.
You have to be 21 years or older to buy a ticket. Alrubaidi said the compensation they will receive goes back to the community and his family business.
“That's becoming more like a lifestyle than a job. I’m seeing these customers. I don’t even call them customers, they are like family. We've been in this community for a long time," he said.
"A lot of them know me and I know a lot of them. So it's just kind of like a family. Coming here everyday, seeing your customers, laughing with them, and just enjoying time. That's what it's all about,” he continued.
