Ville Platte mother speaks after being arrested, accused of threatening child's teacher: 'never threatened anyone'

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) -- The Ville Platte woman charged with assault and threatening her child's teacher and a school district official claims her child's teacher was sending photos and videos of her child's class to people not connected to the school.

Vashayla Skinner, the mother charged, said she did not assault or threaten anyone.

"You mean to tell me that me going there to protect my daughter is a crime?" Skinner said. "Then, I mean, I don't know what else to say because that is the only thing that I went there for."

Skinner said she filed complaints to her daughter's school in Ville Platte after her daughter's teacher allegedly sent photos and videos of her daughter's class. She received screenshots of the photos and videos the teacher allegedly sent to the teacher's boyfriend.

After hearing the teacher was not fired, Skinner spoke to the Evangeline Parish School Board Assistant Superintendent about the school board's internal investigation.

"I asked him, I said, 'Well, I'm just here to find out why will she be placed back on campus after all of this?" Skinner said. "He yelled at me and started saying, 'You need to get out, leave my office. I made my decision. And that's what it is. My investigation is over.'"

News 10 reached out to the school board for a comment about their investigation. Evangeline Parish School Board Superintendent Darwin Lazard said they cannot comment on any pending litigation.

Once the investigation was over, Skinner was upset the teacher was still at school. Police records show she then threatened to beat up the teacher and the assistant superintendent.

However, Skinner said that did not happen.

"I never even came into contact with the teacher, at all," Skinner said. "I have never assaulted anyone. I have never threatened anyone."

Skinner claims all she did was file complaints about the teacher sending pictures and videos of students in class.

"As a concerned parent, I just hope that you understand, especially a mother, where I'm coming from, that you would have done the same thing, too," Skinner said.
