CLEAR debuts new verification technology at Austin airport

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is one of a dozen airports across the country to debut new identity verification technology as part of its security process for certain passengers.

CLEAR announced Tuesday it was rolling out its new EnVe Pods, a faster-paced identity "enrollment and verification" system for CLEAR Plus customers traveling through airports. The technology employs a wide-angle camera that uses CLEAR's NextGen Identity program to verify travelers via their faces, without needing to scan their eyes or take a fingerprint.

Company leaders said the technology is designed to be five times faster and expedite the verification process. AUS' CLEAR lanes will now feature the new system, which is also deployed at the following airports:

  • Buffalo Niagara International Airport
  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport
  • Denver International Airport
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • Oakland International Airport
  • Orlando International Airport
  • Pittsburgh International Airport
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
  • Salt Lake City International Airport
  • San Francisco International Airport
  • San Jose Mineta International Airport

In 2025, CLEAR officials said the company will continue unveiling the EnVe Pods technology at all 58 airports within the CLEAR Plus network. Company leaders added the new technology access won't come at an additional cost for CLEAR customers.
