Albany-Saratoga Speedway development project stalled
MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Plans to bring hundreds of new apartments to Saratoga County are on hold after the Malta Town Board voted to table the idea.
A developer made a formal presentation to the board to transform the old Albany-Saratoga Speedway property into apartments and retail space. They ended rumors that it would be Section 8 housing, but rather apartments for middle class workers earning between $49,000 and $70,000 a year.
They argued that with GlobalFoundries growing, there's a desperate need for affordable housing. Developers asked for a workshop to further study the plan. With a 2-2 vote, the project is stalled for now.
